Apparently, even the local speedways are no longer a sacred place for men as sport after sport reluctantly surrenders to its inherent male dominance to the "gentler sex". This time, the ladies have penetrated the outlaw modified class racing division, and make no mistake , a local girl is at the wheel !!! Her name is Heidi Herzog and she is one of 3 women currently racing this type of vehicle, sort of resembling a souped-up lobster trap. Herzog, an Islamorada local took to racing 2 years ago, finishing 16th out of 25 in her first race, and for her there has been no turning back. Click on thumbnail to see larger picture. "The first time one of the guys let me drive in practice, I fell in love with racing. Maybe because I'm a woman I hear a lot about safety concerns, but there are many safety features built into the car itself. However I must tell you, This is much safer than driving my Harley Davidson Sportster down U.S. 1. I can do this" Hits since May 3rd 2001
